What started as a group of friends emailing at least weekly has turned into this blog. I guess we're ready to share our modest humor with the world! DAILY UPDATES, *HILARIOUS REVIEWS*, AI GOSSIP!! Be sure to pay attention to who's posting what--we have several contributors, read the comments, and CHECK OUR LINKS ON THE LEFT to not miss posts! We generally all "meet here" after the shows especially. WELCOME!
I love to see comments on blogs, so I'll start and get this going . . .
ReplyDeleteI like them all and the 3 of them are a fantastic combination, but my favorite judge is Paula, because she can be direct and kind at the same time and I admire that in anyone.
My favorite all-time AI winner is Fantasia, believe it or not. I've always enjoyed watching her perform and be so passionate about what she does.
My favorite all-time AI contestant is ELLIOTT!! I also like Constantine and Nikko. I was in a funk for days when Ruben beat Clay (though I like them both, I feel Clay performed better at the finale). I tend to like the boys better than the girls.
My favorite guest? I became a Fanilow this past year. And who can resist Andrea Bocelli? The man's voice is sublime.
My biggest outrages have been when Nikko got booted, when Constantine got booted, when Chris Daughtry got booted (though I still like Elliott better, so that wasn't so bad), when Elliott got booted.
I'm glad this show is only once a year as to not "cheapen" its effect. And I love to see them all have success. And I *love* discussing AI!! In case you can't tell . . .
As for the Judges I have to remind myself that they are, to some extent, focused on projecting their television personas as opposed to who they probably are in real life. With that said, I'm most partial to Randy who is a what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of guy and defintely the most genuine of the three. It doesn't hurt of course that he once sang with the greatest band since the evolution of the human vocal chords, Journey!
ReplyDeletePaula? Is she tired? I don't know. I don't mean to sound like Simon here but in my view she adds just a smidge more than nothing to the show in the way of credibility. Lovely lady, talented person, wrong venue.
Simon? He’s a character…literally. His toxic manner was well-honed long before he made American television so it's hard to take seriously. His act is actually getting sort of old. If you watch the guy closely I swear he glances down at his notes and chooses one his harsh pre-scripted analogies from a long list of prepared nastiness ("That was like [looks down, looks back up] a terribly injured howler monkey with his foot caught in a...whatever"). Next time you see the show pay attention to him and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. The world is already harsh enough so I'd much rather see Simon Cowell the producer shower someone with his own original, sincere, flabbergasted talent worship than see Simon Cowell the character destroy someone's dreams with a barrage of clever insults. I think this would not only add to the credibility of the show but will go a long way toward legitimizing the ultimate winner.
I'm not in it for the Judges though. It's the people that impresses me most (and yes, I admit, the stinkers are entertaining too). There are three kinds of Idol fans: Audition fans, competition fans and those who equally like both. I'm mainly an audition fan. However my favorite winner of all the shows is, without question, Taylor Hicks. I think the show will be hard-pressed to find another one like him...but then again, this season is young still so we'll see. Won't we?
An audition fan?? Must . . . resist . . . hitting . . . Tutuzdad . . . JUST KIDDING! I'm so glad you're here and posting! Welcome aboard! Tutuzdad and John and I are all former Google Answers Researchers! And your love of Taylor Hicks? My mom's going to be so excited. She LOVES Taylor.
